Plainfield police responding to the 200 block of Pond Place found a 23-year-old man with serious injuries around 9 p.m., Acting Union County Prosecutor Lyndsay V. Ruotolo and Plainfield Police Director Lisa Burgess jointly announced. The man was subsequently pronounced dead.
Several minutes later, officers responded to New and West 4th streets, where a 26-year-old and a 37-year-old man had also been shot, Ruotolo and Burgess said. The pair were taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, where they were treated for non life-threatening injuries, authorities said.
The identity of the man killed is being withheld pending notification of his immediate family.
The Union County Homicide Task Force and assisted by members of the Plainfield Police Division, Union County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Unit, and Union County Police Department Ballistics Unit are investigating.
It is strongly believed by investigators that residents of the neighborhoods where these shootings took place may have valuable knowledge of what occurred, and anyone with such information is being urged to contact Prosecutor’s Office Detective Lamar Hartsfield at 908-451-1873 or Sgt.
